ABSTRACT
| This study examines the impact of women’s representation in cooperative management on decision-making effectiveness and organizational performance in Enugu State, Nigeria. Employing a mixed-methods approach, data were gathered from 222 women engaged in various cooperatives through structured questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Results indicate a positive perception of women’s contributions, with 56.3% of respondents rating decision-making effectiveness as “very effective” or “effective,” and 63.0% believing that women’s representation significantly enhances cooperative performance. Key barriers to women’s advancement identified include societal norms and stereotypes (36.0%), limited access to training and resources (22.5%), and inadequate networking opportunities (20.3%). To overcome these challenges, the study recommends the implementation of mentorship and sponsorship programs, enhancement of training and development opportunities, and the adoption of gender-sensitive policies to foster inclusivity. These recommendations aim to create a supportive environment for women in cooperative management, thereby improving decision-making processes and overall organizational outcomes, while advancing gender equity in leadership roles. |
